About two Feared Dead As Police And  Youths Clashes  In Anambra Community

Two persons have been reported  killed in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State in a clash involving policemen and youths of the community.

The clash was brought about by the death of a commercial motorcyclist,  who met his untimely death when trying to escape police arrest knowing the implication of violating the rule of no bike once is 7pm daily, unknown to him was a moving vehicle which crushed him without mercy.

Members of the community,  especially  youths, immediately  blamed the police for the death of the motorcyclist, mobilised and attacked the Nteje Police Station, threatening to set it ablaze.

In other to drive off the angry youth , the police were said to have called for reinforcement from men of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, FSARS from Awkuzu, causing shootout, which sparked a protest in the area.

“Human and vehicular movements were freezed for over three hours on the Onitsha-Express way when the youths blocked the road in protest, and in other to drive away the youths, the police started shooting and in the process, a youth was caught by bullets, making it the second person that died.”

Meanwhile,  the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the unrest in the community, however, denied that two persons were killed.

Confirming the death of two persons The youths in the area were so furious that they  mobilised themselves that  night and moved to the Nteje police station, accusing the police of killing their kinsman.
