The Impartial Countrywide Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday reported the Edo and Ondo State governorship elections have not been postponed.
INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye in a statement released on Monday reported the election timetable has not been adjusted.
The electoral body, for that reason, promised to tell Nigerians if and when a new conclusion is taken.
“The Commission wishes to notify the general public that no decision has been taken to postpone the Edo and Ondo governorship election or change the timetable and routine of pursuits for the stated election scheduled for 19th September and 10th October 2020 respectively.
“It will be recalled that the Commission on the 6th February 2020 launched the Timetable and Routine of Routines for the two elections. Given that then, the timetable has not been adjusted.
“While we are conscious of the destructive affect of the coronavirus pandemic, we are also checking the many efforts by the Federal and Point out Governments, health authorities and other stakeholders to have the unfold of and eradicate COVID-19.
”If and when the require arises to modify the timetable for the election, the similar will be conveyed to the general public in the standard method. In the meantime, we will continue to study the circumstance very carefully and cooperate with other stakeholders in the battle from COVID-19.”
